Transitioning to calcined clays
Thermal activation of clays to produce highly reactive artificial pozzolans on a large scale is one of the most important technologies developed on an industrial scale to reduce CO2 emissions in cement manufacture and concrete production. The production process and the optimization of its use in the new cement offer better performance, features, and durability.

The availability of thermally activated clays on the globe is quite large, giving the SCM the greatest potential in the cement industry, even more so given the future drastic reduction in the supply of fly ash.
Reasons to use calcined clay as SCM
-
Opex less than 20 USD / Tm CC. (Depends on the mine distance)
-
Estimated electricity consumption: 33 Kwh / Tm CC
-
Estimated caloric consumption: 550 Kcal / Kg CC
-
Production temperatures of 750 to 850ËšC instead of 1,400 to 1,500ËšC like klinker
-
Up to 40 percent CO2 emissions reduction per tonne of cement
-
30 percent reduction in power consumption per tonne of cement
-
40 percent reduction in fuel consumption per tonne of cement
-
Much lower costs for grinding
